The 12th Annual British Film Designers Guild Awards took place on Saturday 18th February once again at The Londoner in Leicester Square. NR Events were lucky enough to take on the production management for another year and meant that another memorable night needed to be designed and brought to life for the art departments of the film industry to enjoy.
There were many unique features to this event, with ideas formed by new BFDG chairperson Blair Barnette who wanted to champion sustainability. We suggested the idea of a living plant wall behind the stage which we knew was going to be a huge undertaking for all suppliers involved to pull off such a big task.
But thanks to Palmbrokers and Peak Hire, the living wall became a breathtaking backdrop to the awards stage. Featuring over 900 live plants and a bespoke pyramid LED screen designed and installed by Universal Pixels, it was the staple to the sustainability theme of the awards and completely changed the feel of the room compared to 2022. Next year’s ceremony will be tough to beat in terms of stage design…
Other special additions that the evening featured was cycle rickshaws that we had BFDG branded to transport the award guests from Leicester Square underground station to the entrance at the Londoner Hotel as a complimentary service for everyone. As seen in the image, this went down brilliantly and created a unique experience as well as promoting greener travel in London.
The awards was a night of glits and glamour with the tables beautifully decorated with thanks again to Palmbrokers for donating living table centres made from tree trunks and lots of natural greenery. BFDG also decided that digital event programmes were more appropriate this year and so the lead sponsor, BEN, lent a high spec tablet for each dining table to display the programme on for guests to read at their leisure.
There is always an added pressure on ensuring that the British Film Designers Guild Awards are designed and delivered to a high standard of production design given that the whole project is working alongside experienced creatives with expert knowledge in their fields. We are grateful to have worked with sponsors so passionate about also bringing together a fantastic event and making it so visually appealing.
The awards for 2023 ran really well overall, considering that there were brand new hosts for this year who needed to learnt the ropes in replacement of the beloved Mark Kermode who wasn’t able to attend. Well deserved winners and nominees were able to celebrate their achievements in style and dance into the night at the underground afterparty of the Londoner too.
We look forward to next year and delivering another memorable night for all!
