Working with Q community

Over the last five months we have been working on planning and delivering events with Q community across the UK. The most recent being in Glasgow, with an event in Birmingham and two in London earlier in the year. Q’s events aim to increase collaboration, are an opportunity to share ideas, and are an opportunity to meet fellow Q members in a relaxed and informative setting. 

The Q Lab workshops have taken place in Birmingham and London, drawing in members from all over. The Q Lab network is a “program that offers a bold new approach to making progress on health and care challenges. Working on a single challenge, we bring together organizations and individuals from across the UK to pool what is known about a topic, uncover new insights and develop and test ideas” (Taken from Q’s website) Q provides funding for these projects to bring people together. 

The venues the Labs have been in are varied, with Birmingham being at the incredibly modern x +y venue, Foundry. For this event we had our own events space that is part of the overall co-working space. This was a bright and beautiful space, with botanical decor and access to hot drinks and all the facilities of the venue. This event held a much smaller group of Q members giving everyone a chance to work closely together. 

Glasgow on the other hand brought in a much larger group of members to St Andrew’s suite at 200 Conference and Events venue. This venue was situated in the heart of Glasgow with multiple breakout spaces and networking areas that allowed for inspiring conversations and new ideas. The Glasgow collaboration event focused on quality improvement and how waiting times can be reduced in practices.

We had great feedback from the delegates who joined us in Scotland, with 100% of voting attendees saying that they would recommend the event to others. We love receiving positive feedback like this, especially when it develops into conversations around planning additional events in that region for 2024!

At the events, our team works closely with the Q team to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day as well as the set up of the venues and registration. For this we use Eventbrite as the registration platform and to check-in delegates on the day. We also assist with venue liaison, AV support, and keeping the events running to schedule.

We are really looking forward to what Q have in store for us in 2024!

The hotel prides itself on its sustainability values whilst still offering the best service and catering possible 🌱 which fit nicely with the Q team`s objectives!

✏️We are brushing up our CAD skills for the summer.

⛸️ Cheltenham Ice Rink - Sustainability Report 2023 ⛸️

At the beginning of the year, the Ice Rink in Cheltenham finished another successful season of skating sessions, this year with an improved focus on sustainability 🌍

We worked with @visitcheltenham and the suppliers of the Ice Rink to collate all production, transport, waste, serveware, graphics information and inputted this into TRACE. TRACE provides a sleek software to understand exactly which areas of the event are the highest contributors to the carbon output, which we were then able to format into a visual presentation. This will allow for the organising team and suppliers to work on improving for next time and reducing the event`s carbon impact event further.

🔬 As part of our ongoing training to support our roles on site, last week we took part in a day of online training with @theloop_uk We spent the day on their `Responding to drug use at music festivals & outdoor events` course to help us ensure our knowledge was on top form ahead of festival season. We had a fantastic experience and some important conversations with other industry professionals about keeping everyone safe. 🔬

🎪 5% VAT for Festivals 🎪

@aif_uk are asking the UK Government to lower VAT on music festival ticket sales from 20% to 5% for a temporary period of three years.

As of last week, 21 UK festivals have announced having to postpone, cancel, or completely close this year. AIF are predicting that the UK may lose over 100 festivals in 2024 due to rising costs.

We have witnessed the damage that the pandemic, increasing supply chain costs, Brexit, and the energy crisis have caused to the once thriving UK festival scene. In order to keep our most-loved events alive, the government must take action now!
